When you are offered a position with a Crusie line, you will be given your date of departure after the following is in place, Mycrewhome will assist you throughout the whole process.
- C1/D Visa from the US Embassy visa information
- CRB Check from www.disclosureScotland.co.uk
- Medical from P&I Medical centre
- Flight to join your vessel (your recruiter will advise if you need to pay for this)
Once arriving in home port you will be transported to eirthe a Hotel or the Cruise line HQ whilst, all meals and transport will be provided.
Applying for a position
Applicants will already have the foundation skills that will enable them to apply for Cruise Ship employment, you should already know which position you are applying for and be focused on it. "Any job will do" is not what we are looking for.
A clear and well laid out CV is abolutely vital, giving dates and clear job eiscriptions, your cover letter should relate you to the job description you are applying for
Tell us on your cover letter why you would like to work on a cruise ship, If you just are looking to travel, then this will not be the job for you.
Are you going to be comfortable with the bullet points below?. Give us some examples on your cover letter of why you feel you can manage this.
If you have reached the interview stage then it has already been established that you have the right credentials, the interviewer will likely be asking in more detail about your experience. All the time evaluating you, your personality, your attitude and establishing if you will be succesfull on board ship and suited to ship life.
Preparing for "Life at sea"
My Crew Home have recognized the need and benefits of preparing Crew for the difficult transition from land to Sea. We have a genuine desire to see each and every candidate advance to their desired role, from the platform we have built for them succeed in the Cruise Ship industry
Ship life is not for everyone, it is vital that you listen to the information you are being given. take it in and have a good think about it. Be honest with yourself, don't get caught up in "Travel the world and get paid for it" Cruise ship life can be challenging and will inevitably involve ups and downs, highs and lows, it is the downs and the lows that you need to be prepared for.
Here are some questions to ask yourself.............
- Can I be away and apart from Family and friends for 6 months?
- Can I work every day for 6 months?
- Can I Share a small cabin?
- Can I work 85 hours a week, 7 days a week and still smile?
- Do I enjoy and am I passionate with your work.
- Can I comply with the rules and regulations on board?
- Accept the cabin inspections, the USPH inspections, Captains Inspection?
- Daily team meetings
Use the internet rescource to reasearch and understand the Cruise line, what are thier values, how do they sell themselves. Do they use slogans like, service excellence or freestyle cruising, who is who within the company, the Heirachy on board, Ship jargon, home port, destinations etc etc. The more familiar you are about the cruise line the more comfortable you will feel when on board.
